PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IMPROVES CHILDREN'S COGNITIVE PERFORMANCE
Sibley, B. A., & Etnier, J. L. The effects of physical activity on cognition in children: A meta-analysis. Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 34(5), Supplement abstract 1198.
Studies relating physical activity to cognition in children were evaluated.
Middle and early-age elementary school children were most affected by physical activity in a beneficial way. Resistance training and physical education produced the greatest effects. Perceptual tests, academic achievement, and early childhood development were the most affected areas.
Implication. Physical activity (aka physical education) is important for academic and growth factors in developmental education.
