CAFFEINE NEGATES CREATINE EFFECTS

Vandenberghe, K., Van Hecke, P., Van Leemputte, M., Vanstapel, F., & Hespel, P. (1997). Inhibition of muscle phosphocreatine resynthesis by caffeine after creatine loading. Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 29(5), Supplement abstract 1417.

It was found that two days of creatine loading raised muscle phosphocreatine and improved performance to the same level as that achieved after five days. However, when caffeine was ingested the ergogenic effect was eliminated.

Implication. Do not mix creatine ingestion with caffeine intake if any performance improvement is desired.
