This study was designed to determine if NCAA Division III female swimmers (N = 15) were adequately meeting the Daily Recommended Intakes (DRI) Guidelines. Ss completed three-day diet records. The records were analyzed for kcal, macronutrient, and micronutrient consumption.
Total energy intake represented 92% of the daily recommended intake. Carbohydrate consumption represented 110% of the intake. The consumption of protein was 144% of the daily recommended intake while fat consumption was 135% of the intake. Vitamin D consumption represented 91% and Vitamin E 41% of the intake.
Implication. NCAA Division III female swimmers are deficient in specific micronutrients while consuming too much fat and protein.
