SOME PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTS DO NOT DISCRIMINATE LEVELS OF HIGH-PERFORMING ATHLETES
Miller, B. P., & Miller, A. J. (1985). Psychological correlates of success in elite sportswomen. International Journal of Sport Psychology, 16, 289-295.
Elite netballers (N = 20) were divided into two groups, successful (those selected for the final team), and unsuccessful (those not selected). All Ss were given the following tests:
No factor or test significantly discriminated between the two groups.
Implication. The five tests used in this study are insufficiently sensitive to discriminate between final successful and unsuccessful female netballers. They should not be used for research comparisons with pools of restricted high-performing female athletes.
