SWIMMING TRAINING REDUCES FORCE PRODUCTION CAPACITY

College swimmers (M = 3; F = 9) completed four swimming sessions over five days. A moderate practice swimming below aerobic threshold was completed on days 1 and 4. A high intensity and high volume practice were performed on the other two days. The middle day of the five days was a rest day.

The second trial produced less force production irrespective of which condition was experienced first. Reaction time was faster on the second trial.

Implication. Swimming training causes a reduction in the ability to generate force.
