CAFFEINE DOES NOT AFFECT A SINGLE BOUT OF ANAEROBIC PERFORMANCE

Greer, F., Morales, J. O., Coles, M. G., & Jackson, C. G. (2005). Wingate performance and surface EMG frequency variables are not affected by caffeine ingestion. Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 37(5), Supplement abstract 232.

College males (N = 18) performed a 30-second Wingate Test after ingestion of a placebo or caffeine (5 mg/kg). Trials were one week apart.

Caffeine did not affect peak power, mean power, or power decline when compared to the placebo condition. Most EMG variables were similar.

Implication. Caffeine ingestion did not affect a single maximal anaerobic performance.
