MULTI-ACTIVITY TRAINING DOES NOT IMPROVE PERFORMANCE

Hue, O., Valluet, A., Blonc, S., & Hertogh, C. (2002). Effects of multicycle-run training on triathlete performance. Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 73, 289-295.

Competitive triathletes (N = 12), randomized into two groups, underwent 6-weeks of normal or multicycle-run training. Basic training remained the same over this period with the only change being the addition of higher intensity experimental training.

Both conditions improved overall cycle-run performance. However, multicycle-run training did improve transition and initial running performance.

Implication. Multicycle-run training improved the skill of this particular triathlon transition but did not improve overall performance.
