SAME-DAY STRENGTH TRAINING DOES NOT COMPROMISE GAME PERFORMANCE CAPACITY IN FEMALE BASKETBALL PLAYERS

Woolstenhulme, M. T., & Allsen, P. E. (2000). The same day effects of weight lifting on VO2max, vertical jump, and anaerobic power in female collegiate basketball players. Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 32(5), Supplement abstract 976.

Female collegiate basketball players (N = 18) performed a morning strength training program and six hours later, were tested on performance and physiological variables. Results were compared to a day when no lifting occurred. There were no significant differences in any tested variables.

Implication. Female basketball players can strength train on the same day as a game without compromising any performance or physiological factors.
