PHYSIOLOGICAL FACTORS AND ERGOMETER PERFORMANCE DO NOT PREDICT ROWING CREW PLACEMENT IN WOMEN

Perkins, C. D., Seibel, E. J., & Pivarnik, J. M. (2001). Physiological profiles of a women's NCAA crew team. Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 33(5), Supplement abstract 1393.

The physiological profiles of a university's female crew team (N = 16; varsity and junior varsity crews) were measured and a 2-km time trial on a rowing ergometer performed.

There were no physiological measures that predicted crew placement. VO2max was a significant predictor (72% of variance) of 2-km ergometer performance.

Implication. Physiological measures or ergometer trials do not predict crew placement in a reasonably homogeneous group of women.
