This article describes the reconciliation of modifications in the visuo-motor behavior rehearsal (VMBR) model for imagery practice with the recent literature. It summarized some important basic concepts:

• determining the exact content of the imagery actually used by the athlete in rehearsal,
• individualizing the rehearsal content and procedures,
• training in the transfer of skills from imagery to performance, and
• the development of adaptive skills for coping with unexpected events.

Implication. What actually is imagined and how it is imagined in imagery rehearsal is particularly individual and event-specific in content. If what is imagined is not event-specific then there will be no beneficial carry-over to performance.
