ATHLETE'S TESTIMONY OF MENTAL IMAGERY

Tracy Caulkins, a great USA swimmer, recounted some of her pre-race mental activity.

". . . I'm able to concentrate and to think positively. Before big races, I visualize [mentally rehearse] them over and over; I think of them just before going to bed. You know at the international level everyone's in just about the same physical condition, so how the race ends depends on you mentally . . . " .
