ALTITUDE QUESTIONS

Rushall Thoughts, (1994).

Anyone who proposes altitude training has to answer and explain the following questions:

  1. What are the benefits of training for a brief period (< one month) at moderate altitude?
  2. What are the specific benefits that will transfer to sea-level performance dynamics (evidence must be supplied)?
  3. How are those benefits retained for sea-level performance after sea-level readaptation has taken place?
  4. What do swimmers think of altitude training? [The US swimmers hate it. Few are willing to go to Colorado Springs, even though it is free, because it disrupts their training so much.]
