MODERATE HYPOHYDRATION DOES NOT IMPAIR ANAEROBIC PERFORMANCE
Stembridge, C., Boulant, C. G., & Thorne, R. (2008). The effect of hypohydration on anaerobic exercise performance. ACSM 55th Annual Meeting Indianapolis, Presentation Number 1340.
This study examined the effect of moderate hypohydration on anaerobic exercise performance. Athletic males (N = 8) completed two iterations of a 30-second Wingate Anaerobic Power Test: in a well-hydrated condition, and under conditions of moderate hypohydration. Iterations were separated by 3-10 days. Exercise tests were conducted at the same time of day.
There were no significant differences between treatment conditions in mean power or mean power per kilogram of body weight.
Implication. Moderate hypohydration does not impair anaerobic exercise performance in young, athletic males.
