15 DAYS OF DETRAINING DOES NOT ALTER PHYSIOLOGICAL MEASURES

Flaherty, J. M (2003). Changes in anaerobic power and selected cardiovascular variables associated with fifteen days of training. Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 35(5), Supplement abstract 1876.

Males (N = 12) were analyzed for physiological measures and then subjected to no-training. Anaerobic and aerobic variables were examined for changes over 15 days of detraining. Measures were repeated at days 0, 5, 10, and 15.

Maximal anaerobic power, submaximal aerobic heart rate, systolic blood pressure, and rate of perceived exertion did not change over the period of observation.

Implication. Training and fitness parameters are not altered by a period of 15 days of no training.
