NASAL DILATORS DO NOT AFFECT LACTATE THRESHOLD

This study examined the effect of an external nasal dilator on both sedentary and aerobically trained females using lactate threshold as a measure of aerobic performance. Sedentary (N = 9) and aerobically-trained (N = 8) female college students performed two incremental cycle ergometer tests. A nasal dilator strip was worn on one of the tests.
No significant differences were found in lactate threshold for the with- and without-nasal dilator conditions.
Implication. Nasal dilators have no effect on aerobic performance as represented by lactate threshold.
