HIP STRENGTH TRAINING IMPROVES SPRINT AND AGILITY PERFORMANCES

Ss (M = 13; F = 11) completed eight weeks of hip flexion resistance training using elastic tubing (three times per week, 4 sets of 15 repetitions for each leg). Isometric hip flexion strength, 40-yd dash, and 4 x 5.8 m shuttle run times were recorded.
Shorter shuttle and 40-yd run times were recorded in 20 of 24 Ss. All pre- and post-measures were significantly different.
Implication. Hip flexion training improved sprint and agility performances.
