CREATINE PLUS CHO NO BETTER THAN CREATINE ALONE FOR IMPROVING PERFORMANCE

Theodoru, A., Cooke, C. B., King, R. F., & Duckett, R. (1998). The effect of combined carbohydrate and creatine ingestion on anaerobic performance. Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 30(5), Supplement abstract 1543.

Four days of creatine and creatine+carbohydrate supplementation effects were compared among males. One group ingested creatine alone (N = 7), another creatine plus carbohydrates (N = 6), and the other served as a no-ingestion control (N = 7). Performance was evaluated by three 30-sec Wingate tests with six minutes of inter-trial recovery.

Body mass increased in the Cr+CHO group, and performance improved for both supplementation groups over that demonstrated by the controls.

Implication. The performance of an acute creatine loading together with CHO supplementation did not improve repeated anaerobic performances beyond that associated with creatine-alone supplementation.
