TEAM SPORTS ARE GOOD FOR FEMALES

Garlick, D. G., Argyrous, G., & Orr, F. (2002). Psychosocial effects on women playing a team sport compared with women playing non-team sports. Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 34(5), Supplement abstract 1323.

Netball players (N = 200) and non-team sport female athletes (N = 253) were interviewed with 26 questions in four categories: social, social skills; stress management, and body image.

Of the 26 questions, 16 showed significant differences between team and non-team sportswomen. Netballers showed better social characteristics, stress management, and better body image than the non-netballers.

Implication. Team sports are a good influence on the social and personal development of females.
